小野神社和矢彥神社, Shinto shrine in Japan
Ono Shrine and Yahiko Shrine are two Shinto shrines sharing the same grounds in Tatsuno, a district of Shiojiri in Nagano Prefecture. The site consists of two separate worship areas with traditional wooden buildings, torii gates, and stone lanterns.
Both shrines have roots in the early history of the region and served local communities as places of worship for many centuries. Over time they were brought together onto the same grounds, while each kept its own identity and dedicated space.
The site holds two separate shrines side by side, each dedicated to a different deity, which makes the visit feel like two distinct sacred spaces in one. Visitors can observe the small differences in the ritual objects and offerings placed at each shrine.
The grounds are easy to reach on foot and are generally open throughout the year. Visitors are expected to behave respectfully, especially if prayers or rituals are taking place when they arrive.
It is uncommon to find two fully separate shrines, each with its own name, deity, and prayer area, sharing a single plot of land. This arrangement reflects a local tradition of combined worship that is less often seen in other parts of Japan.
