Tatsuno, Mountain town in Nagano Prefecture, Japan.
Tatsuno is a town in Nagano Prefecture situated in the Ina Valley, where the Tenryū River flows through its center and the Kiso Mountains frame the surrounding landscape. The area spreads across gentle hills and green valleys typical of this Japanese mountain region.
The area originated from Inatomi, a village founded in 1889 that later took the name Tatsuno. Over time, the municipality merged with several neighboring villages to form the community that exists today.
The educational system includes five elementary schools, five middle schools, one high school, and the Shinshu Honan Junior College, serving the local population.
Visitors can arrive via the Chūō Main Line or Iida Line railways, and the Chūō Expressway and National Route 153 connect the town to larger Japanese centers. The infrastructure allows relatively easy access from outside the region.
The Matsuo-kyo area is known for its natural firefly populations visible during summer months. These glowing insects are a fascinating phenomenon, though populations are affected by the arrival of non-native species.
