Tribhuvan University is a public higher education institution in Kathmandu District with its main campus in Kirtipur. The institution operates dozens of constituent sites and coordinates over a thousand affiliated colleges across the nation.
The institution opened on June 25, 1959, as the first university center in Nepal. The main campus moved to Kirtipur in 1967 to provide more space for the growing number of faculties.
The campus preserves traditional architecture alongside modern buildings, creating a space where Nepali students and scholars gather daily. Many graduates from across the country return here to teach or participate in research projects.
Visitors can walk through the open grounds and use the libraries without restriction. Courses take place in Nepali and English depending on the faculty and program.
