Landhi Korangi Zoo, zoo in Sindh, Pakistan
Landhi Korangi Zoo is a zoological garden in Karachi, Pakistan, covering about four acres with maintained pathways and clean enclosures. The facility houses lions, tigers, monkeys, peacocks, deer, zebras, and crocodiles, along with an indoor aquarium featuring tanks of fish and marine life.
The zoo was established in 1990 and joined the South Asian Zoo and Aquariums Regulatory Council, reflecting its commitment to animal care standards. In 2006, significant improvements included the addition of lions and transfer of animals such as zebras, wallabies, Arabian oryx, and ostriches from Karachi Zoo.
The zoo's name comes from its location in the Landhi and Korangi neighborhoods, where it serves as a gathering place for families on weekends. Local residents visit regularly to learn about animals and spend time in a green setting away from the city's busy streets.
The zoo is open daily from morning to evening with wide pathways suitable for strollers and wheelchairs. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes and bring sun protection, and arriving early in the morning offers cooler weather and fewer crowds to view animals more easily.
The zoo houses an indoor aquarium that was the largest in Pakistan when it opened in 2012, offering visitors a close-up look at marine animals in large tanks. This separate feature requires an additional ticket but remains unusual for the region and attracts families curious about underwater life.
