Pandan Reservoir, reservoir in Singapore
Pandan Reservoir is a water storage facility in western Singapore and the first project in the country to join the ABC Waters program for improving public waterways. The site features modern facilities including a water sports center, fishing decks, viewing platforms, and an open landscape with minimal shade throughout.
The reservoir was created by filling in the swamps of the Sungei Pandan estuary during the mid-20th century after prawn farming operations were abandoned. This pioneering project transformed a coastal area into a modern recreational facility for the city.
The name comes from Sungei Pandan, a river that once supported prawn farms in this area. Today the water serves as a gathering place where people from nearby neighborhoods come to exercise and find peaceful outdoor space away from urban noise.
The path around the levee is about 6 km long and can be used for walking, cycling, or jogging, though it passes through sunny areas with little shade. Bring water and a hat, check weather conditions before visiting, and be aware that insect control fogging may occur near the area.
This reservoir is the only one in Singapore built on raised ground, giving it an exceptionally open and spacious feeling that distinguishes it from other water facilities in the city. This feature makes it especially rewarding to visit early in the morning or late in the afternoon when light angles across the landscape.
