Treelodge@Punggol, Eco-housing estate in Punggol, Singapore
Treelodge@Punggol is a public housing development in the Punggol district of Singapore, made up of several residential tower blocks. The buildings have solar panels on the rooftops and rainwater collection systems built directly into their structure.
The project was commissioned by the Housing Development Board and designed by Surbana Corporation to set a new standard for public housing in Singapore. It was completed in December 2010 and was the first public housing project in the country built with an explicit focus on green construction.
The complex sits in Punggol, a district that Singapore deliberately shaped into a new town from the early 2000s onward. The green spaces around the buildings are part of daily life for residents, who use them for walks and casual outdoor time.
The site borders parks and is easy to explore on foot, with schools and shops close by. Public transport stops are nearby, making it straightforward to reach the area and move around without a car.
The solar panels on the rooftops generate enough electricity to fully power the common areas of the development. That surplus feeds directly into the operation of lifts, lighting, and other shared facilities across the site.
