Kürtün Dam, Hydroelectric power station in Gümüşhane Province, Turkey
Kürtün Dam is a concrete-face rock-fill structure built across the Harşit River that generates electricity for the surrounding region. The facility harnesses water from its reservoir through two turbines to produce power.
Construction of this dam began in 1986 under supervision of Turkish State Hydraulic Works. The reservoir started filling in 2002 and reached full capacity by 2003.
The dam represents an essential part of Turkish infrastructure development, marking a step forward in the national commitment to renewable energy resources.
The site is connected to Kürtün town through a mountain tunnel roughly 5.6 kilometers long. Access is best managed during dry seasons when road conditions are most stable.
A notable feature of this facility is the 5.6-kilometer mountain tunnel that runs directly to the nearby town. This tunnel was specifically built to support construction work and remains today as a singular access route through the terrain.
