Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art, Art museum in Gateshead, England
Located on the south bank of the River Tyne, Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art occupies a former flour mill with four exhibition floors and multiple amenities.
The building operated as Baltic Flour Mills from 1950 to 1984, employing 300 workers and storing 22,000 tons of grain before its transformation into an art center.
Since opening in 2002, the center has welcomed 9.5 million visitors through rotating exhibitions of international contemporary art across multiple gallery spaces.
The center maintains free admission Wednesday through Sunday from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, featuring a rooftop restaurant, shop, library, and sensory room.
In 2011, Baltic became the first venue outside London or Liverpool to host the Turner Prize exhibition, attracting record attendance numbers.
