Submission, Amusement ride at Alton Towers Resort, United Kingdom.
Submission was an amusement ride at Alton Towers Resort featuring two mechanical arms that swung in opposite directions to hurl passengers upward through multiple rotations. Each arm rotated at approximately seven revolutions per minute, causing riders to spend significant portions of the ride inverted.
The ride opened in 2001 as a replacement for the Energizer attraction and was removed before the 2014 season began. It operated for approximately one decade within the park.
This double inverter ride represented a technological advancement in theme park entertainment, adding to Alton Towers' collection of mechanical attractions.
The ride accommodated up to 24 passengers per gondola arranged in two rows with automatic lap bar restraints. The experience was physically intense due to the repeated inversions throughout the cycle.
During its final years of operation, one of the two mechanical arms malfunctioned and could no longer operate properly, reducing the ride's capacity significantly. With only one functional arm, the hourly passenger throughput dropped considerably from its original design.
