Hemlock Falls

Hemlock Falls is a mountain waterfall in Rabun County that cascades over a rock face into Moccasin Creek, creating white water as it drops. The falling water pools at the base and is surrounded by dense forest on all sides.

The falls takes its name from hemlock trees that grew along Moccasin Creek during the early settlement era of Rabun County. These trees were a defining feature of the forest during that time.

Photographers and hikers regularly visit the falls to capture seasonal changes and light filtering through the forest canopy. The location draws people seeking to experience and share the natural beauty of the region.

The falls are accessible via a marked forest trail from Lake Burton Wildlife Management Area parking area, covering about 2 miles round trip. The hike is moderately challenging, so wear appropriate footwear and bring water.

The pool at the base of the falls provides habitat for native salamanders that shelter among the rocks year-round. These amphibians are a constant part of the waterfall ecosystem.
