Majestic, Historic showboat theater in Cincinnati, United States.
The Majestic is a historic showboat moored on the Ohio River in Cincinnati, built with a steel shell over a wooden hull. The vessel has a stage, seating, and several decks that still reflect the original layout of a working floating theater.
The boat was built in Pittsburgh in 1923 and was the last riverboat theater constructed in the United States. In 1989 it was designated a National Historic Landmark, recognized as the sole surviving example of its kind.
The Majestic was one of the last floating theaters to travel American rivers, bringing performances to towns far from major cities. Visitors today can see the narrow stage and simple interior that once seated crowds eager for live entertainment.
The boat sits along the Ohio River and is easy to spot from the riverfront in downtown Cincinnati. Access conditions can change depending on the time of year, so it is worth checking ahead before planning a visit.
The Majestic had no engine of its own and depended entirely on a tugboat called Attaboy to travel from one stop to the next along the river. This pairing meant that two separate vessels had to work together every time a new performance town was reached.
