John G. and Phyllis W. Smale Riverfront Park, Public park in downtown Cincinnati, US
The John G. and Phyllis W. Smale Riverfront Park extends along the Ohio River between Great American Ballpark and Paul Brown Stadium, with gardens, walkways, and water features throughout. The grounds connect different green spaces and paths that invite people to walk and spend time outdoors.
Development of the park began in 2012 following a major gift that made the project possible. This marked a turning point in reshaping Cincinnati's riverfront for public use.
The Marian A. Spencer memorial within the grounds honors local civil rights leaders and their lasting impact on the city. It serves as a visible reminder of community struggles and achievements that shaped Cincinnati.
The park is open daily with playgrounds, picnic areas, and multiple paths for walking and cycling throughout the grounds. Visitors should allow time to explore different sections, as the space extends several miles along the riverfront.
The Gardner Family Grove and Rose Garden feature select flower varieties that attract and support local butterflies. These intentionally designed gardens create habitat for native insects while offering visitors a quiet natural experience.
