Parque del Tricentenario, Municipal park in Ponce, Puerto Rico.
Parque del Tricentenario is a municipal park in Ponce comprising three separate plazas with gardens and marble seating throughout the grounds. A distinctive bridge featuring lion sculptures spans the Rio Portugues, connecting the various sections of the park.
The park was built in 1992 under mayor Rafael Cordero Santiago to commemorate Ponce's 300th anniversary as an established city. This development reflected the community's effort to honor and celebrate its municipal history and heritage.
The plaza honoring notable Ponce citizens features 24 kiosks with fountains celebrating figures from medicine, sports, arts, and politics. Walking through this section, visitors encounter names and stories of people who shaped the city's identity.
Located at the southern end of PR-1 in Barrio Tercero, the park offers free entry and is open from sunrise to sunset every day. The layout is straightforward, making it easy to navigate between the three plazas on foot.
Two massive lion sculptures guard the entrance bridge, with one representing hope and rebirth while the other symbolizes wisdom and protection. These iconic statues often capture visitors' attention immediately upon arrival at the park.
