Rolling Acres Mall was a two-story shopping center in Akron that housed retail stores and common areas. The building covered a large footprint and provided space for several department stores and smaller shops.
Forest City Enterprises opened the shopping center in 1975 with Sears as an anchor tenant and 21 other stores. The facility closed its doors in 2008 after three decades of operation.
The Court of Twelve Trees formed the central meeting point where residents gathered for community events and seasonal celebrations throughout the year.
The closed building still stands at its original location in northwest Akron. Access to the property has been restricted since it stopped operating.
Photographer Seph Lawless explored the abandoned hallways in 2011 and documented the decay in a photo series. His images drew worldwide attention and showed the slow decline of the once busy spaces.
