Ski Brule, Winter sports resort in Iron River, Michigan, United States
Ski Brule is a ski resort near Iron River, in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, set across forested hills with runs suited to different ability levels. Several lifts serve the terrain, and the vertical drop is enough to give a real sense of descent on the longer runs.
The resort opened in the mid-20th century, when the Iron River area began attracting winter sports visitors drawn by the natural snowfall of the Upper Peninsula. Over the following decades, new lifts and trails were added, gradually shaping the resort into what it looks like today.
Ski Brule draws many repeat visitors from Michigan and nearby Wisconsin, with families often returning season after season. The lodge at the base serves as a natural meeting point after a day on the slopes.
The terrain works well for beginners and intermediate skiers, while a few steeper runs give advanced skiers something to work with. Snowfall in the Upper Peninsula tends to be generous, so conditions are often good from December through March.
The name Brule comes from a nearby river named by French trappers centuries ago, a reminder that this remote corner of Michigan was once a busy fur trade route. That river still runs through the valley below the slopes, visible from certain points on the mountain.
