Virginia War Museum, Military museum in Newport News, United States.
The Virginia War Museum displays military artifacts, equipment, weapons, and uniforms spanning from 1775 to modern times. The collection documents American military history across multiple conflicts and periods of national defense.
The museum was founded in 1923 by the Braxton-Perkins Post of the American Legion. It moved to its permanent home on Warwick Boulevard in 1941, where it continues to operate today.
The museum features exhibits dedicated to women in military service and how their roles developed over time. Visitors also encounter military propaganda posters from different periods that reflect how conflicts were communicated to the public.
The museum is located on Warwick Boulevard and open Wednesday through Sunday from 9 AM to 4:30 PM. Plan to spend a couple of hours exploring the various exhibits and collection rooms throughout the building.
The museum houses sections of the Berlin Wall and part of the outer wall from Dachau concentration camp. It also displays the steel helmet worn by Harry Truman during World War I.
