Description
Causey's Mill is a gristmill in Newport News housed in a two-story white wood building that overlooks Lake Maury. The interior contains original wooden milling machinery, including millstones and a hurst frame used to process grain.
History
William Causey built this mill in 1866 after the Civil War, creating one of only two surviving historic mills between the James and York Rivers. The structure has endured and is now maintained by the City of Newport News.

The mill reflects Virginia's agricultural traditions, where grain from local farms was ground into flour for nearby communities. This work formed the backbone of rural life in the region.
