Brookfield Place, Office and retail complex in Battery Park City, Manhattan, United States.
Brookfield Place is a building complex in Battery Park City, Manhattan, United States, comprising four towers, shops and a large glass atrium. The structures follow a modern architectural style with glass and steel, forming a cohesive development directly on the Hudson River.
The complex was built between 1983 and 1988 under the original name World Financial Center to expand Manhattan's financial district. After the attacks of September 11, 2001, it sustained major damage and was later comprehensively restored and renamed.
The name reflects Brookfield Asset Management, which owns and operates the complex, while visitors find numerous shops and restaurants in a light-filled environment. The connection between the office towers and public areas makes this a meeting point for business people and tourists alike.
Access is available through several entrances along West Street and from the Hudson River waterfront, with subway stations reachable within a few minutes. The interior offers numerous seating areas and remains open throughout typical business hours.
The Winter Garden atrium houses 16 palm trees, each around 40 feet (12 meters) tall, sourced from California's Mojave Desert. These trees were transported by truck across the country and then planted inside the glass-covered space.
