Lennox Hotel, former hotel in St Louis Missouri
The Lennox Hotel is a historic hotel in downtown St. Louis, Missouri, built in 1929 and now operating as a Courtyard by Marriott. The building displays Renaissance Revival architecture with terra cotta decorations and detailed cornices, originally designed by architect Preston J. Bradshaw, and today offers 164 spacious rooms with unique layouts.
Built in 1929 as the city's tallest hotel at that time, it symbolized St. Louis's prosperity during a growth period before the Great Depression. After decades of operation, it closed in the 1970s, was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1984, and underwent several renovations before reopening as a Courtyard in 2015.
After renovation, the hotel became a Courtyard by Marriott, with local artists contributing artwork to showcase local talent and history. The interior design brings together the original dark, ornate walls from the 1920s with bright, modern furnishings, creating a space that feels both historic and contemporary.
The hotel is located in downtown St. Louis and is easily accessible on foot, with its original exterior design from the 1920s still clearly visible. The building was recently thoroughly renovated, including repairs to windows, masonry, and stonework, making it safe and easy to navigate.
The hotel was originally built for about 2.5 million dollars and had nearly 400 small rooms, making it a considerable investment for its time. After reopening in 2015, the number of rooms was reduced to 164, but each room is now much more spacious and comfortable.
