Bisdamitz, Settlement in Lohme, Germany
Bisdamitz is a small settlement on the Jasmund Peninsula in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, situated on higher ground near the Baltic coast. The community centers around a protected manor house that serves as the historical focal point of the place.
First documented in 1314 as Bisdomitze, the settlement takes its name from the Slavic Bezdomici, originally referring to people without fixed residential rights. The early settlement later developed into an agricultural estate with permanent habitation.
The protected manor house forms the central part of Bisdamitz, representing traditional German estate architecture and agricultural heritage of Rügen Island.
The settlement sits along a side road between Glowe and Lohme with limited facilities on site. For shopping and services, travelers should head to Sassnitz, where the main amenities are concentrated.
Today the estate operates as an ecological farm managing over 400 hectares of land using modern sustainable methods. This blend of traditional estate heritage with contemporary environmental practices sets it apart in the region.
