Bayerwald-Tierpark Lohberg, Animal park in Lohberg, Germany.
Bayerwald-Tierpark Lohberg is an animal park near Großer Arber mountain, where about 400 animals from around 100 species native to the Bavarian-Bohemian region live. The grounds display different habitats and enclosures where these animals have appropriate conditions.
The park was founded to present the region's wildlife and remains the only zoo in the Upper Palatinate to this day. Since its creation, it has contributed to educating people about regional species and preserving endangered populations.
Schools and families visit the park regularly because of educational programs that show how regional animals live together. Visitors experience firsthand which species are native and understand why protecting their habitats matters.
The park is easy to walk through, with broad paths leading past different enclosures and plenty of benches to rest on. It's wise to wear weatherproof clothing since you spend lots of time outdoors and mountain weather can change quickly.
The park houses European otters, some of the rarest mammals on the continent, which visitors can watch in large pools. These animals are given a water space here that closely matches their natural habitat.
