Kittenberger Kálmán Zoo & Botanical Garden, Zoo and botanical garden in Veszprém, Hungary
Kittenberger Kálmán Zoo and Botanical Garden spreads across Fejes Valley and Gulya Hill with enclosures for rare cats, brown bears, water birds, lemurs, baboons, tapirs, and red pandas. The grounds combine animal displays with various planted areas across both elevations.
The facility was founded in 1958 and built in just five months through local volunteer efforts. It is named after Hungarian zoologist and explorer Kálmán Kittenberger.
The place offers visitors learning programs, guided tours, and hands-on experiences that show why protecting wildlife matters. These activities help families and school groups connect with nature and understand conservation efforts.
The location is about 15 kilometers from the lake and offers parking areas, play zones for children, and accessible walking paths through animal and plant sections. Both zones are connected by walkways, making it easy to move around for visitors of different abilities.
The Kids Jungle area includes the Sloth Way, where children crawl through animal transport boxes while discovering amphibian exhibits in surrounding terrariums. This experience mixes movement with nature observation in a playful way.
