Mount Tsurugi, Sacred mountain peak in Toyama Prefecture, Japan
Mount Tsurugi rises to 2999 meters within the Northern Japan Alps, forming a pyramid-shaped peak with steep rocky slopes and exposed ridges.
The first documented climb occurred in 1907 when Ikuta Nobu reached the summit and discovered an ancient iron sword dating back approximately 1000 years.
The mountain name translates to 'Sword Mountain' due to the discovery of religious artifacts, connecting it to Japanese mountain worship traditions.
Climbers access the mountain through Murodo station via the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route, with climbing season running from July through early October.
Metal chains and ladders secure the climbing routes on this peak, which remained the last major Japanese mountain to receive official measurement.
