Hyakuyojō Falls

Hyakuyojō Falls is a vertical cascade within Hakusan National Park that plunges over 90 meters, creating white spray against the landscape. The waters flow across the Seijogahara Plain and form a dramatic natural spectacle in the alpine terrain.

The falls lie within Mount Hakusan's area, where Buddhist priest Taicho completed the first recorded ascent in 717. This early religious connection shaped the mountain's spiritual importance for centuries to follow.

The falls are part of the Kaga-Zenjodo pilgrimage route, which connects sacred sites across Mount Hakusan. Pilgrims and visitors have used this path for centuries to experience the landscape's spiritual importance.

Access is through hiking trails in Hakusan National Park, which require sturdy footwear and weather-appropriate clothing. Planning ahead and monitoring weather conditions are essential, particularly during colder months.

During winter months, the frozen cascade creates an unusual formation where water flows from snowy plains into an ice basin. This rare frozen structure resembles a small volcano made entirely of ice.
