Château de Minowa, Mountain fortress in Takasaki, Japan

Château de Minowa is a mountain fortress built on a hill about 30 meters (100 feet) high near Takasaki. The site features multiple circular defensive rings with stone walls and water-filled moats that protected different sections.

The Nagano family founded the fortress in 1512 as their regional power base. It remained under their control until Takeda Shingen's forces captured it during a military campaign in 1566.

The site holds meaning for local communities as a symbol of regional power during feudal times. People visit to connect with the area's past and understand how samurai-led territories functioned.

The site is easy to reach by public transport and offers free parking. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes since exploring the different levels and defensive structures involves considerable walking.

A major gateway was restored in 2016 using historical techniques that reveal traditional Japanese medieval construction methods. This reconstruction allows visitors to observe authentic craftsmanship from centuries past.
