Prime Minister's Residential Area, Government residence in Nagatachō, Japan
The Prime Minister's Residential Area stretches across three floors above ground and one basement level, constructed entirely with reinforced concrete in Nagatachō.
The residence opened its doors in 1929 as part of the Central Government Ministry Construction Plan following the devastating Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923.
The interior spaces of the residence display Japanese artworks and incorporate architectural elements that reflect the national identity of Japan.
The residential complex spans 5,200 square meters and functions as both a living space and an administrative center for Japan's head of government.
Architect Muraji Shimomoto incorporated design elements influenced by Frank Lloyd Wright while maintaining an independent architectural vision for the structure.
