Château de Saimyoji, Hilltop castle in Shiga Prefecture, Japan

The castle features multiple defense rings with a central tower, built using traditional Japanese architectural techniques and wooden construction methods.

During the Sengoku period of the 15th century, the castle served as a military fortification and administrative center for local feudal authorities.

The castle layout reflects Japanese social hierarchy, with samurai residences positioned near the main structure and separate districts for merchants and artisans.

Visitors can reach the castle site by taking the JR Tokaido Line to Hikone Station, followed by a local transport connection.

The castle grounds contain over 1,000 maple trees and rare fudanzakura cherry trees that produce blossoms during the autumn season.
