太平橋, Road bridge in Satsumasendai, Japan
Taihei Bridge is a road crossing that spans the Sendai River, linking the northern district of Oshoroji with southern neighborhoods of Higashikaimo and Mukaetahoncho. The present structure dates to 1979 and carries National Route 3 through Kagoshima Prefecture.
An early bridge at this location was built in 1874 by master builder Aso Tetsuya but was destroyed during the Satsuma Rebellion of 1877. The site has been rebuilt multiple times since then, and the current span represents the sixth crossing constructed here.
The area around this crossing is known as a gathering place during local celebrations, where the river becomes the focus of traditional seasonal events that draw people from surrounding neighborhoods.
The bridge is easily accessible on foot and accommodates pedestrians and cyclists alongside vehicle traffic. The location provides good views of the river and remains open year-round, though conditions may vary with the seasons.
A memorial stone marking the original 1875 construction remains preserved as a designated cultural property of Satsumasendai City. This marker documents the early building phases at this important river crossing.
