Hoeamsa, Buddhist temple site in Yangju, South Korea.
The Hoeamsa temple grounds extend across 333,233 square meters, featuring traditional Korean architectural elements and stone structures from different periods.
An Indian monk established Hoeamsa temple in 1328 during King Chungsuk's reign, and it grew to become the largest temple in Korea during early Joseon Dynasty.
The temple site contains preserved stupas, stone lanterns, and flag pole posts that demonstrate the Buddhist architectural practices of the Goryeo and Joseon periods.
The archaeological site includes multiple excavated structures, walking paths, and informational displays explaining the temple's historical significance and architectural features.
Queen Jeonghui directed a 13-year expansion project of the temple, while Queen Munjeong granted it special status during her regency for King Myeongjong.
