Jebel Aabeby

Jebel Aabeby is an excavation site situated on a hill near Sidon, surrounded by cedar trees with a monastery positioned on the western side of the summit. The location contains Neolithic archaeological remains that have been systematically uncovered.

Archaeologists conducted extensive excavations in 1965 and uncovered numerous Neolithic artifacts. These discoveries contributed significantly to understanding human settlement in this region.

The site reveals connections to the Qaraoun culture through its collection of flint tools, including broad blades, heavy scrapers, and massive cores. These objects show how people worked and lived during that distant period.

The site is located approximately 2 kilometers (1.2 miles) southeast of Sidon near the road to Qraye and remains accessible to visitors. Plan your visit during daytime hours and wear comfortable footwear for the uphill walk.

Flint tools discovered at this site are preserved in the Museum of Lebanese Prehistory. These uncommon finds help researchers understand even earlier periods of human habitation in the region.
