Kuzucubelen Castle, Medieval fortress in Mezitli, Turkey
The two-story watchtower features stone vaulted construction with thick walls measuring between 0.9 and 1.8 meters across different sections.
Built during the Armenian Kingdom of Cilicia in the 12th century, this fortress controlled passage routes connecting the Mediterranean coast to Cappadocia.
The fortress stands near Kuzucubelen village, where the Tahtaci community maintains their traditions in the Taurus Mountains of Mersin Province.
The fortress maintains its original height of 6 meters except for a collapsed section on the western facade, with multiple embrasures for archers.
The lower level of the rectangular watchtower, spanning 47 square meters, functioned as a water cistern for the garrison stationed at this outpost.
