Lazarus Building, Commercial landmark in Downtown Columbus, United States
The Lazarus Building spans 700,000 square feet across multiple levels, featuring five stories on High Street and seven stories on Front Street.
The structure opened in 1909 as the flagship store for F&R Lazarus & Company, operating continuously as a department store until its closure in 2004.
The building introduced the first escalator in Columbus during its opening year and displayed seasonal window arrangements that drew local crowds.
The renovated structure now houses government offices, the Ohio State University Urban Arts Space, restaurants, and various business facilities.
The building includes a rooftop garden that collects water for cooling purposes, contributing to its LEED Gold certification for environmental sustainability.
