Saint Andrews African Methodist Episcopal Church stands at 2131 Eighth Street with a brick structure and traditional religious architecture.

Founded in 1850 by Daniel Blue, this church represents the first African American congregation established on the Pacific Coast of the United States.

The church hosted three California Colored Citizens Conventions between 1855 and 1865, addressing civil rights issues for African Americans in California.

The church maintains regular Sunday services and educational programs at its current location, serving the Sacramento community since 1951.

Elizabeth Thorn Scott Flood initiated an early African American school in 1854 with support from this religious institution.
