International Car Forest of The Last Church, Desert art installation in Goldfield, Nevada, US.
The International Car Forest of The Last Church is an art installation with over 40 vehicles buried nose-down in the desert or stacked on top of each other. The cars sit at different angles across the open landscape, creating an unusual outdoor arrangement.
The project began in 2002 when artist Mark Rippie buried the first vehicle on his property with the goal of setting a world record. Since then, the installation has grown and become a recognized art site in the desert.
Artists regularly paint new designs on the vehicles, turning them into a gallery where automotive art changes over time. The painted cars show how this remote desert spot draws creative people together.
The site sits off Highway 95 on Crystal Avenue and is completely free to visit. A small white sign marks the entrance, and the open desert space lets you walk around and view the vehicles from different angles.
Many visitors don't realize the vehicles are intentionally buried nose-down, which gives this installation its own visual signature. This unusual orientation sets it apart from other similar art spots across North America.
