Cenote Miguel Colorado

Cenote Miguel Colorado is a natural freshwater sinkhole located in limestone terrain south of Champotón, surrounded by thick forest vegetation. The site features two connected pools that allow for swimming and kayaking within this preserved natural setting.

The sinkholes formed over millions of years as groundwater dissolved the limestone bedrock and created these deep natural pools. The Maya civilization recognized their significance and used them as essential water sources and spiritual sites.

The local Maya communities view this place as sacred, honoring traditions passed down through generations that emphasize the spiritual importance of these water sources. Visitors can sense this reverence in how the area is cared for and respected.

The location sits roughly 70 kilometers south of Champotón and is easiest to reach by private vehicle or arranged transport. Various water activities and guided experiences are offered on-site, though it is wise to confirm availability ahead of your visit.

The forest surrounding the cenotes is home to spider monkeys and howler monkeys whose calls echo through the canopy. Nearby lies Laguna de Mokú, a water body where wild crocodiles make their home.
