Sky Mirror, Tidal sandbar in Kuala Selangor, Malaysia.
Sky Mirror is a tidal sandbank in Kuala Selangor that creates a natural reflective surface under specific tidal conditions. The phenomenon spans several kilometers and forms when shallow seawater covers the exposed sand flats.
The phenomenon was discovered by local fishermen from Jeram village and remained unknown to the wider public for a long time. From 2016 onwards, travel enthusiasts made it known and it became a popular destination.
The site connects to traditions of the Chinese lunar calendar, as the best visiting times align with the first and fifteenth days of each lunar month. Many visitors intentionally plan their trips around these dates to experience the phenomenon at its fullest.
Visiting requires booking through authorized tour operators who transport visitors by boat from Kuala Selangor jetty. The best time to visit is during low tide periods when the water level is at its lowest.
The sand flats are home to marine creatures such as soldier crabs, sea anemones, and bamboo clams that become visible at low tide. These animals are part of the natural ecosystem and add biological interest to the experience.
