La Cruz de Benidorm, Summit cross at Sierra Gelada Natural Park, Spain.
La Cruz de Benidorm is a metal cross set on a rocky peak in Sierra Gelada Natural Park, on the coast of Benidorm in southeastern Spain. It stands at the top of a steep ridge and can be reached on foot via a series of steps and paths that wind up through the natural park.
A wooden cross was first placed on the peak in 1961 by the San Jaime Church as a visible sign of faith over the city. The current metal structure replaced it in 1975.
The cross stands visibly above Benidorm and serves as a reference point that locals and visitors alike look up to from the city below. People come here for different reasons, some drawn by faith, others simply by the view over the coast and the bay.
The cross can only be reached on foot through Sierra Gelada Natural Park, as no vehicles are allowed in the area. There are no facilities along the way, so bring water and wear shoes with a good grip before starting the climb.
The metal cross was built from old railway tracks that were repurposed rather than discarded. This gives the structure a heavy, industrial look that feels out of place on a mountain peak until you learn the story behind it.
