Benidorm is a coastal city on the Costa Blanca in Alicante province with three main beaches along five kilometers of coastline. The beaches of Levante, Poniente, and Mal Pas offer different environments and facilities for visitors.
The city received its charter in 1325 from Admiral Bernat de Sarria and developed as a settlement. Over the centuries it withstood several pirate attacks along the coast.
The name Benidorm comes from Arabic and means „sons of the storm
Sailing schools, water sports facilities, and diving centers are distributed along the beaches and operate throughout the year. Most offerings concentrate on Levante and Poniente beaches.
The Serra Gelada nature reserve has limestone cliffs that rise 300 meters (980 feet) above sea level. This formation influences local weather patterns along the coast.
