Serra Gelada and Litoral de la Marina Baixa

Serra Gelada and Litoral de la Marina Baixa is a protected nature park stretching across limestone cliffs that rise 300 meters above the Mediterranean Sea near Altea on the Costa Blanca. The site combines coastal terrain with marine zones, creating diverse habitats within an area spanning approximately 5,653 hectares.

The area gained protected status in 2005, marking a turning point for conservation efforts along Spain's Mediterranean coast. This decision reflected growing recognition of the need to safeguard the region's distinctive landscapes and marine ecosystems.

Local fishermen in the villages around the park continue practices passed down through generations, shaping how the coast is used and lived in. Their work remains visible in the harbors and connects residents to the sea in ways that define daily rhythms here.

Beneath the surface lies the underwater mountain of Llosa de Benidorm, rising from 35 meters deep to just 8 meters below sea level. This submerged formation creates a distinct habitat for Mediterranean marine life and draws attention from divers and marine observers.
