Mirador de Sant Jaume, Coastal observation platform in Benidorm, Spain.
Mirador de Sant Jaume is a pentagonal platform built on rocky cliffs overlooking Levante and Poniente beaches along the Mediterranean coast. The structure integrates safety railings with the natural cliff formation and allows views extending along the coastline in both directions.
From 1347 into the 17th century, a defensive fortress stood at this location protecting the population from Mediterranean pirate attacks. The castle suffered damage during military conflicts in the region and eventually disappeared from the landscape.
The white stone balustrade marks the boundary between Benidorm's main beaches and serves as a meeting point for locals and visitors. The viewing platform captures light differently throughout the day, changing how the surrounding seascape appears.
Access is via the beachfront promenade, which can be reached from either side and is well marked with signs. Wear appropriate footwear since parts of the path cross rocky or rough surfaces.
The name references Sant Jaume and connects to the religious history of the city, though little of that association remains visible today. The platform historically served as a landmark for sailors navigating the bay due to its prominence from the water.
