Hudson New York
Hudson New York is a hotel in Midtown Manhattan, close to Central Park and the Theater District. The building mixes exposed brick and industrial ducts with modern interiors, including a bright lobby fitted with a glass ceiling and climbing plants.
The building was constructed in 1929 as a residence for young women, and also served as a clubhouse for local members. In 2000, French designer Philippe Starck oversaw a complete redesign that transformed it into a hotel.
The lobby of the hotel, with its glass ceiling and climbing plants, works more like a meeting place than a traditional hotel entrance. Guests and locals often stop there to meet, making it feel more like a shared space than a private one.
The hotel sits on the west side of Midtown Manhattan, near 58th Street, with several subway lines within easy walking distance. Visiting the rooftop is best in the evening, when the light over the city is at its most rewarding.
The rooftop terrace is fitted with hammocks, which is an unusual detail for a hotel of this size in the middle of a dense city. From up there, you can also see the Hudson River, the waterway that gives the hotel its name.
