The Lalu
The Lalu is a hotel on the shore of Sun Moon Lake in Yuchi Township, built on a small peninsula with views of the water. The building is divided into three separate areas: the main guest area, facilities like a spa and gym, and villa and conference spaces, all with calm, minimalist design.
The original building was a small wooden cabin built in 1901 by Mr. Ito as a vacation house. In the 1920s it was converted into the official residence of Japanese Crown Prince Hirohito, and later became the guest house of President Chiang Kai-Shek under the Republic of China.
The Lalu carries a name rooted in local history and valued by many people. Visitors can sense today how the place served as a meeting point for important figures, and this significance shows in how it is designed and maintained.
The hotel is easily reached by car via main roads or by buses from Taipei and Taichung. Staff can assist with transportation arrangements, sightseeing tips, and reservations, and the place encourages a slow pace to enjoy the natural beauty around the lake.
The original building was built in 1901 as a simple wooden vacation retreat and later served as a meeting place for high-ranking politicians and generals who valued its seclusion and quiet. Its renaming to Han Bi Lo reflects the cultural shift and importance it gained for those who visited it.
