San Pedro Springs Park, Historic public park in San Antonio, United States.
San Pedro Springs Park is a 46-acre public park in North San Antonio built around natural springs. The grounds contain green spaces, walking trails, tennis courts, a swimming pool, and a theater area.
Spanish authorities designated this location as public space in 1729, creating the first official park in what would become Texas. An irrigation system was constructed between 1731 and 1734 to harness the spring's water for the developing settlement.
The spring was known as Yanaguana to the Payaya people and served as the center of their settlement. Visitors can still sense the importance this location held for the region's earliest inhabitants.
The park offers free access from sunrise to sunset daily. Visitors should bring water and plan visits for early morning or late afternoon during hot weather.
Archaeological evidence shows human presence at this location for about 12,000 years. This unusually long continuity makes the park a rare window into North American settlement history.
