Hutan Wisata Punti Kayu, Zoo and recreation park in Alang-Alang Lebar, Indonesia.
Hutan Wisata Punti Kayu is a zoo and recreation park featuring the largest urban pine forest in Indonesia, spread across about 50 hectares with walking trails, lakes, and various animal enclosures. The site is divided into areas, some dedicated to nature conservation while others offer visitor amenities including playgrounds, recreational equipment, and attractions like a flying fox.
The Dutch administration established this site in 1937 as a conservation forest, initially naming it Erpacht Punti Register 51. Over time it developed into a public recreation park while maintaining its original forest cover.
The name Punti Kayu comes from the Komering language and means papaya tree, reflecting the agricultural roots of South Sumatra's past. This connection to local heritage remains visible in how the space is used today.
Visitors can explore the grounds during daytime hours and find various facilities including playgrounds, a flying fox, and a water park. The walking paths are accessible on foot throughout the site, with shaded forest sections providing natural shelter as you move between areas.
The park devotes over 80 percent of its land solely to nature and forest preservation, while recreational facilities occupy only a small portion. This makes it unusual among urban leisure parks that typically do the opposite.
