Penguin Trek, Steel launched roller coaster at SeaWorld Orlando in Orlando, USA
Penguin Trek is a steel launched roller coaster located at SeaWorld Orlando in Orlando, Florida, with both indoor and outdoor sections that simulate an Antarctic snowmobile expedition. It sits in the Sea of Ice section of the park and uses linear synchronous motor launches to send riders through a course of twists, banked turns, and airtime hills before returning to the station.
Penguin Trek opened to the public on July 2, 2024, with a grand opening event on July 7. It was built on the site of Antarctica: Empire of the Penguin, a dark ride that operated from May 2013 until March 2020, and construction of the new coaster began with survey markers in December 2022.
The former Antarctica: Empire of the Penguin attraction left behind its mascot, Puck the Penguin, who appeared during this ride's opening event. Visitors can see that the surrounding area still carries the Antarctic theme, with the ride acting as a new centerpiece where families gather to share a launch coaster built for a wide age range.
The ride has a minimum height requirement of 42 inches and a maximum of 78 inches, making it accessible to many families but not to very small children or very tall adults. Since it runs both indoors and outdoors, expect a change in temperature and light levels during the circuit.
At the end of the ride, after the coaster brakes and returns to the station, guests step into a real penguin habitat rather than a simple exit corridor. The track pieces were fabricated by Clermont Steel Fabricators in Batavia, Ohio, and were shipped to Florida for assembly.
