Mako, Steel roller coaster at SeaWorld Orlando, Florida, United States.
Mako is a steel roller coaster at SeaWorld Orlando in Florida that reaches speeds around 73 miles per hour (117 kilometers per hour) along a track spanning roughly 4760 feet (1450 meters) and climbing to a maximum height of 200 feet (61 meters). The layout follows a hypercoaster design and combines steep drops with low hills close to the ground.
The park announced construction in late May 2015 and opened the ride in June the following year as the longest and fastest roller coaster in Florida at that time. The launch reinforced the marine theme throughout the park and involved a partnership with manufacturer Bolliger & Mabillard.
The queue features aquariums with live sharks and educational panels about the mako shark, the fastest species in the ocean. The theming continues after the ride and connects the thrill with messaging about marine ecosystems.
Each train features seven cars with a total of 28 seats secured by lap bars. Visitors should store loose items in lockers since the ride includes several moments with negative acceleration.
Roughly one third of the track runs over water features and delivers nine moments of weightlessness during the ride. The name refers to the shortfin mako shark, which can reach similar bursts of speed in the open ocean.
