Antarctica: Empire of the Penguin

Antarctica: Empire of the Penguin is a themed area at SeaWorld Orlando that combines a motion ride with a large habitat holding multiple penguin species. The space is temperature-controlled and includes viewing areas where you can watch the birds both from above and below the water level.

The area opened in 2013 and replaced an older penguin exhibit and adjacent market restaurant. This renovation allowed the park to rebuild the habitat and redesign the visitor experience from the ground up.

The space reveals how penguins interact and move through their habitat, allowing visitors to watch their daily routines up close through transparent barriers. These observations connect to learning about ocean life and the challenges these birds face from environmental changes.

The area is open year-round and comfortable for extended visits, with multiple seating areas and observation points. Viewing angles are designed for both adults and children, with underwater and surface perspectives changing your viewpoint throughout.

The facility uses artificial snow and specialized lighting systems to mimic natural seasons and help penguins maintain their biological rhythms. This technology shifts daily to reflect the changing conditions of their polar environment.
