Turtle Trek, 3D dome theater at SeaWorld Orlando, Florida
Turtle Trek is a 360-degree dome theater at SeaWorld Orlando that uses dozens of projectors to create a fully immersive display of marine animals in their natural environments. The theater combines this film with actual observation areas where visitors can watch sea turtles and manatees swimming in rehabilitation facilities.
The site began in 1993 as an exhibit focused on marine mammals and later transformed into an immersive dome cinema that opened in 2012. After operating as a theater, the facility was repurposed in 2023 into a coral rescue and research center for endangered coral colonies.
The seven-minute film follows the life journey of a sea turtle named Nyah, teaching visitors about marine conservation and environmental protection.
The experience takes place indoors in an enclosed theater, making it a good choice regardless of weather at any time of day. Visitors should allow about 7 to 10 minutes for the film before exploring the observation areas where live animals are kept.
The theater has shifted its main purpose multiple times and now functions primarily as a marine research and rescue center rather than a regular cinema venue. Visitors can interact directly with marine biologists who work on rescuing and restoring damaged coral reefs.
