Entrada Núcleo Cabuçu

Entrada Núcleo Cabuçu

Entrada Núcleo Cabuçu is a starting point for exploring the Parque Estadual da Cantareira located in the Guarulhos district near São Paulo. The entrance is simple and easy to find, with clear signage and a small parking area, from which several well-marked trails begin that lead to small waterfalls and deeper into the forest landscape.

The park was created in 1963 to protect a large forest area with numerous water sources and streams. An important landmark is the Barragem do Cabuçu, built between 1904 and 1907 and one of the first structures in Brazil to use reinforced concrete, with materials imported from England.

The name Cabuçu comes from indigenous language and refers to a type of tree or a place where water flows. Local people have used the forest for generations, and visitors can learn about native species through simple signs along the trails that explain the importance of preserving this natural environment.

The site is easily accessible by car or bus from Guarulhos, and parking is available near the entrance. Visitors should bring comfortable clothing, plenty of water, sun protection, and a light backpack with snacks, as trails are uneven and some sections can become slippery when wet.

The Barragem do Cabuçu was a pioneering engineering achievement built with imported English steel, marking the development of infrastructure projects in the region over more than a century. While hiking near the dam, visitors can observe the construction techniques of that era and appreciate the durability of this structure.
