Playa de Súa

Playa de Súa is a sand beach along the Pacific coast that curves in a half-moon shape with light-colored sand and green hills rising behind it. The sheltered waters remain calm and clear, making swimming easy and safe.

The beach began attracting tourists during the 1960s when the first hotels were built along the Esmeraldas coastline. This shift connected the small fishing community to the tourism industry.

Fishermen from the area use the beach each morning to launch their wooden boats, with their daily work shaping the rhythm of life along the shore. These traditional practices remain woven into the local identity.

The beach offers chairs and umbrellas for rent from vendors on the sand, and several seafood restaurants are located along the waterfront area. Visitors should pay attention to tide changes, which can affect water depth and beach width.

The protected location of the bay creates exceptionally calm waters year-round, making this one of the safest swimming areas in northern Ecuador. This natural shelter is uncommon along this stretch of coastline.
